Beech Hedge at Meiklour

Perthshire Big Tree Country features many famous trees including the Fortingall Yew, the oldest living thing in Europe, one of the tallest trees in Britain at the Hermitage near Birnam, and the highest hedge in the world at Meikleour. Perhaps it is these natural wonders that have provided inspiration for Perthshire’s pioneering gardening tradition that goes back several centuries.

Scottish Crannog Centre

The Scottish Crannog Centre can be found beside Kenmore on the banks of Loch Tay. . A crannog was a kind of Iron Age dwelling built out from the shore of a loch on stilts. This one is authentically constructed, based on the archaeological evidence from excavations around other crannog sites. Ancient crafts are demonstrated, along with plenty of hands-on activities.

The Scottish Falconry Centre gives you the chance to try your hand at hunting with a Harris hawk. Feel the thrill of having that haughty bird resting on your arm. The base is situated only three miles from the farm. Discussions are under way to actually use our fields for hunting this season.

Learn about the ancient art of falconry and the facinating story of breeding these birds.
